Our Interview with Lourds

www.stylinzine.com

Stylinzine.com: Hey band, well to begin with tell us a little bit about you and your music?

Lourds: We're an explosive rock band with a twist — high energy, emotionally charged, diverse instrumentation with in-your-face electric violin/guitar duets.

Joey:  My names Joey and I play bass, not much more to me than that.  I think our
music borrows from many different influences ranging from the Ramones to
Queen.

Stylinzine.com: Who would you say is your biggest inspiration in life?

Joey:  My biggest inspiration is every hard working band that struggles and makes
things happen on their own

Lourds: It would have to be my mom who sold eggs to come to America, came from nothing, and created a whole world for her and her kids.

Stylinzine.com: Which recording artist do you identify with most?

Lourds: Freddie Mercury

FEATURES

Stylinzine.com: If you could perform anywhere at all where would it be?

Joey: Madison Square Garden, hometown!!

Stylinzine.com:  What would you say is the biggest challenge in the music industry?

Joey: The biggest challenge is separating your self from the millions of other bands somehow, and doing so while still writing music that people want to hear.

Lourds: I would say it's challenging dealing with the fact that the music industry isn't really about music these days.  It's about marketing and pigeon-holing... We don't fit into a particular box and we'd like to keep it that way.

Stylinzine.com: Which 'one hit wonder' (thus far) do you feel deserved a more lasting career?

Joey:  Harvey Danger, haha that song was f***ing hilarious...

Lourds:  Sir Mix-A-Lot... C'mon now, "Baby Got Back" is STILL the jam.

Stylinzine.com: What do you think it takes to carry off a great performance/show?

Joey: You have to truly love what it is that your playing, and be able to convey
that to whatever audience you're playing to, whether it's 6 people in a shit hole bar (cough cough, Massachusetts) or 60 thousand people in a stadium.

Stylinzine.com: Given the choice, which would you prefer and why - mass commercial success right now or recognition as a true musician in time?

Joey:  Mass commercial success, I wanna get f***ed up on drugs and be on VH1 ten
years from now, a slurring, morbidly obese shell of my former self, telling everyone the story of how I lost both my feet in a bet.

Lourds: And because of the mass commercial success, I'll be able to bronze and sell off Joey's feet on Ebay and buy myself a villa in Bora Bora.

Stylinzine.com: What is your favorite song of all time?

Joey:  It's tough, but I'd have to say "Lost in the Supermarket" by The Clash

Lourds:  Gosh, I can't even answer that.  Yesterday I was playing and singing "Love of My Life" by Queen on the piano and told my friend that it was my favorite song of all time.  But that was yesterday...

Stylinzine.com: What does it take to successfully collaborate as a group?

Joey:  There has to be absolute honesty, no thin skins, and enough respect for each
other to really listen and try new ideas.  Some of our greatest musical moments have evolved from ideas that were initially laughed at
.

Stylinzine.com: Which band/soloist do you thing has standout style?

Joey: The Murder City Devils, goddamn they fucking rule.

Lourds: Bjork

Stylinzine.com: By the end of the year what do you hope to accomplish in terms of your career?

Joey: World fame, and all the perks that come along.  That and my own perfume line.  I'm gonna call it "The smell of rock n roll"

Lourds: And believe me, it aint gonna smell pretty...

Stylinzine.com: What would the most flattering concert review about you say?

Joey: That the reviewer got too close to the stage and had their front teeth
knocked out by my bass...

Lourds: And punctured an eyeball from my swinging violin bow... And partially blind and toothless, he went to the emergency room humming our songs.

Stylinzine.com: Well thanks for dropping by Stylinzine.com, before we wrap up; what would you like to share with our readers?

Joey: Have a good time, don't drink and drive, and always check for toilet paper
BEFORE you sit down.
